There a a few who may think this is a bit childish or boring, which may be true if you didn’t watch this when you were 12yrs old or younger and are now in your 30’s and think you’re too sophisticated to be entertained by simple animation. For those out there that I just described, loosen up and get off those cheap drugs.
This is a wildly amusing animated movie, though very hard to find. The music is mysterious and alluring, and sometimes catchy. The movie does have a certain quality that seems to draw viewers back to it. It talks about imagination and allows viewers to use their imagination, as well.
The animation is also very interesting. Its like Don Bluth doing the Smurfs. Its not too distracting, like many late 90’s cartoons are. it doesn’t try to condense the show into something only a 5 minute attention span would accept. This is a truly thought out animation and plot.
The characters are easy to remember. The younger viewing generation seem to adust the characters to their own lives. Many who are the oldest child in their family understand what its like to be responsible for all the younger siblings. Some of the imaginative middle children can adapt to the feeling of imagining you are a character in a book and acting it out in the privacy of your own room. Some may also agree with themselves that they are the over energetic kid that has to play in or with eveything, or are the smart kid of the family treating everything logically. This story even describes how so many childrens belongings mysteriously end up missing, in the most imaginative way.
I was one of the lucky few who had a chance to see this when it first came on television in the early 1980’s. I have also read the popular Canadian book which many of Canada’s schools have adapted to their regular curriculum. If this film ever is remastered for video release, it is definitely worth picking up and adding to your video collection.
This is a show definitely worth looking for. You will not be disappointed.
