This charming animated feature is an excellent choice for the whole family. This movie will show you what it’s like to be locked up in the Central Park Zoo and dreaming of life outside. You’ll follow four creatures as they make their way to what they think is Connecticut, where there are wide-open spaces for them to run around in.
The gang is a mixture of different animals, Marty the zebra (played by Chris Rock), Gloria the hippo (played by Jada Pinkett-Smith), Ale the lion (played by Ben Stiller) and Melman the giraffe (played by David Shwimmer). These unlikely characters are helped by a group of penguins that have a lot of enthusiasm though perhaps not a lot of clear thinking. Through a series of mishaps that can almost universally be blamed on the penguins, our friends end up on a plan headed for Africa.
Their adventure shows them all the true nature of being a wild beast (even if they have spent their entire lives in the New York City Zoo) and they learn valuable lessons about how enemies that are biologically programmed to eat each other can overcome their base instincts and learn to get along.
Perhaps the best parts of the film are the jokes that are designed for the parents, you can watch this film with your kids and enjoy it at an adult level. Many parents say that it is fun to watch on your own once the kids are asleep and you’re guaranteed no interuptions.
Once you see it you will fall in love with the characters and you’ll be sorry to see the film end. There is good news though, Madagascar 2 Escape to Africa has already been released!
