George Lucas directed this epic take on the Star Wars saga. This film is third in the trilogy of prequels that take the viewer back to the original story – the story before the story – of Star Wars. This is an action-packed film with plenty of fights, chases and explosions to keep you interested.

The story takes place three years after the Clone Wars, the Jedi Knights (representing the good guys, as usual) are fighting the Separatists and using their massive clone army to help them. Even with all this firepower at their disposal they still manage to lose the Chancellor Palpatine to a kidnapper (the rather nasty General Grievous, the name says it all). The Jedis must recover the chancellor and to do this the jedi knight Anakin Skywalker and jedi master Obi-Wan Kanobi set off to Grivous’ ship.

The story explains much about the Star Wars legends and is full of twists and turns, people going from good to bad, with consequences for the galaxy. As you would expect from George Lucas the use of special effects is excellent. He has been a real innovator in this area and has the ability to use them to enhance the story rather than detract from it.

The performances are strong, Hayden Christianson as Anakin Skywalker and Ewan MacGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi are the standouts in this movie. They are both commanding presences on the screen and bring an extra dimension to the friendship between the two characters.

The bad guys are very well played as well, Matthew Wood who is the voice for General Grievous, brings the right amount of menace to the role.

The film is a must for anyone who loves the Star Wars series but it also works as a stand-alone piece for sci-fi fans. There is definitely something here for everyone.
