This film is for the “film noir” aficionados; 4 different stories told in a classic style. You are taken into the belly of the beast, which in this case is the city itself, a place where cops are corrupt, dead bodies have a bad habit of turning up and children aren’t safe in their beds. It’s a setting for good versus evil; a place where the lines are clearly drawn and even though the city is corrupt there are still opportunities for people to do the right thing.

Each story is a unique take on the battered people of Basin City (the Sin City of the title); there are prostitutes who kill, killers who fall in love with their prey first, and pedophiles hunting for children. The tales can be bleak and violent, there is not a lot of redemption for these people. When it does come it is usually paid for with a heavy price.

This film has an amazing cast it stars Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba and many more (including by Josh Hartnett). Performing in a film like Sin City is a real challenge for the actors. Based on comic book characters they need to rise above the one-dimensional and bring something real to the role. The original comic feel, with Sin City as a dark and desperate place to be, has been faithfully rendered in the film.

This film has all the pieces of the great detective films of the 30s and 40s, if you like those old style hardboiled tales of the lone man trying to do right in a sea of wrong you’ll love Sin City.
